Multiple productive hydrocarbon formations at different depths beneath the same surface location. Stacked pay dramatically improves the economics of pad drilling — a single wellpad can target multiple formations without moving the rig. The Permian Basin's Wolfcamp and Spraberry stacks are the defining example.
